The Apartment
Our building at 41, rue de Douai was constructed when Abraham Lincoln was the sitting U.S. president. It is a charming period building in the style of Napoléon III. Our spacious apartment is 950 square feet (88square meters), comprised of 4 main rooms—large living room with a double sofa bed, dining room with capacity for 6-8 persons, master bedroom with queen bed, guest bedroom with a double bed and kitchen and large bathroom. The rooms have beautiful period molded ceilings and fireplaces. There are large double windows in all the rooms giving the apartment an airy, light feeling. The living room faces south, and is sunny in the afternoon.
Our apartment is fully furnished, sleeps four to six comfortably
and is convenient to the center of Paris. Furnished with antiques
and oriental rugs and fully equipped with appliances (full-size
refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, gas cook-top
and electric oven), it is the perfect pied-a-terre for a short
or extended stay. Our personal art collection and library complement
the charm and warmth of the apartment.
The Neighborhood
The "Nouvelle Athenes" neighborhood is an appealing neighborhood
of nostalgic Paris. Within steps are traditional boulangeries including
the winner of the best baguette of Paris, small working shops--the
shoemaker, the antique dealer, as well as true neighborhood bistros
where the welcome is simple and genuine. This is not "chic" Paris
of high fashion and fancy prices, but a true neighborhood. A small
park nearby with a children's play area looks just as it did when painted
by Vuillard. The apartment is close to Montmartre and the lively market street of rue Lepic, the Moulin Rouge and Place de Clichy. There is a mouth-watering organic market on Blvd des Batignolles on Saturdays and the jewel-like “Musée de la Vie Romantique” is just around the corner, for a restful tea in its beautiful garden.
Transportation
There are two Metro stops and multiple bus stops in the immediate
neighborhood within 5 minutes on foot. These connect to all major lines
of central Paris and are direct to the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs-Elysees
and all major tourist sites such as the Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, the
Eiffel Tower and others. This area of Paris is unusually well served
for efficient access to all areas of the city and suburban sites (Versailles,
Giverny).
